Though Montenegro does not use the English language in the production of its national media, according to Rowe and Levine's A Concise Introduction to Linguistics (2016), American and British movies, television, and other forms of entertainment became popular and were distributed worldwide" following World War II (p. 360). Like many other countries across the world, Montenegro has been influenced by the popularity and spread of American and British media. My interview with Marija Nikčević confirmed this influence, as she spoke of how the prevalence of American and British television and movies made the process of learning English easier. Because she was already exposed to English through these forms of media, she did not find the process to be difficult. Additionally, "in the 1980s, the personal computer and the Internet became the new emissaries of the English language. Because the idea for and original development of the Internet occurred in the United States, most of the original data on the Internet was in English" (Rowe and Levine, 2016, p. 360).
